According to the seller — who claims to have worked for METALLICA in 1991 during the "black album" USA tour and obtained the glove from METALLICA's former tour manager Tony Smith — this glove was worn by James to help heal and protect his burned left hand from the heat of stage lighting. The glove comes with a James Hetfield plectrum from the 1992 tour and a black album world tour "after-show" pass, complete with two photocopied photographs of James wearing the medical glove. A certificate of authenticity from Tony Smith is also included.

For more information, and to bid on the glove, click here. A description of the book reads as follows:

"Hit the lights and jump in the fire, you're about to enter the School of Rock! Today's lecture will be a crash course in brain surgery. This hard and fast lesson is taught by instructors who graduated from the old school — they actually paid $5.98 for The $5.98 EP. But back before these philosophy professors cut their hair, they were lieutenants in the Metal Militia.

"METALLICA is the 'thinking man's' metal band and the headbanger's CNN. Snobs and music critics have often dismissed METALLICA as mindless noise; we're here to set the record straight. 'In pursuit of truth no matter where it lies,' this book considers questions that philosophers have been pondering for ages, including: Does METALLICA's music provide an Aristotelian catharsis or does it just make kids go postal? Can 'Fade to Black' save you from suicide? Are we all in the 'Sanitarium'? How can we 'Escape' to be free? What can Nietzsche tell us about the God That Failed? What can Descartes and 'One' tell us about the relationship between the mind and the body? Did Lars make a sound argument against Napster?"

"Metallica and Philosophy":

* Is a provocative study of the "thinking man's" metal band
* Maps out the connections between Aristotle, Nietzsche, Marx, Kierkegaard, and METALLICA, to demonstrate the band's philosophical significance
* Uses themes in METALLICA's work to illuminate topics such as freedom, truth, identity, existentialism, questions of life and death, metaphysics, epistemology, the mind-body problem, morality, justice, and what we owe one another
* Draws on METALLICA's lyrical content, Lars Ulrich's relationship with Napster, as well as the documentary "Some Kind of Monster"
* Serves as a guide for thinking through the work of one of the greatest rock bands of all time
* Compiled by the editor of "Seinfeld and Philosophy: A Book about Everything and Nothing and The Simpsons and Philosophy: The D'oh! of Homer"

"METALLICA is more than just a band, and this book is much more than just a ticket to ride down memory lane. This is an in-depth analysis of the soundtrack to your life. So start your CD player, fire up your iPod, or, better yet, break out the old vinyl. We're going' for a ride with the four horsemen, and a few philosophers too.

"Commented ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian: "The most elucidative dissertation on METALLICA ever written. And a kick-ass read to boot!!!

"Added Joel McIver, author of "Justice For All: The Truth About Metallica": "'Metallica and Philosophy' is, at long last, the book which finally gives everyone's favorite headbangers due credit for being intelligent, questioning, and even cerebral."

Source:blabbermouth.net

14 songs ready

Lars Ulrich told a New York radio program that the band will lay down 14 songs for its ninth studio album, which the group will begin recording next Monday (March 12th) in San Francisco. Ulrich said on the Friday Night Rocks show, "We started out about six months ago with about 25 songs and now we've narrowed those down to 14, and we're gonna start recording 14 songs next Monday. So we're all pretty stoked."

Unlike the troubled, turbulent sessions for the band's last album, 2003's St. Anger, Ulrich told us that pre-production for the new effort has had a whole different vibe: "It's frighteningly tame (laughs). The four of us show up and we hang out and we have a great time, and there are no psychiatrists in sweaters, there are no film crews, it's very much like it used to be. It's pretty mellow around here. All that St. Anger stuff seems like a movie (laughs)."

Of course, the drummer is jokingly referring to Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, the documentary that chronicled the making of St. Anger.

Ulrich acknowledged on Friday night that American fans were disappointed that the band will tour in Europe and not the U.S. for the second summer in a row. But he added, "All our American fans out there must rest assured that there will be no end to the love coming everybody's way in the next couple of years with the new record and so on."

The drummer also said he was "sure in his heart" that Metallica would play the entire Master of Puppets album live in the U.S., as it did last year in Europe.

The group plans to work in the studio until early June, take a break for its European tour, then finish recording in August. As for whether Metallica will release the new album in 2007, Ulrich said, "I'd like to try and get it out this year, I hope we can get it out this year. If it doesn't come out this year, then it will be out at the very beginning of next year."

Source: encycmet.com

Am I Evil - Hetfield Drums, Kirk Bass , Jason Guitar and Lars Vocal

New producer speaks

METALLICA producer Rick Rubin told MTV.com two weeks ago that he wants the band to make a "defining" album when they enter the studio next month. Rubin admitted he was "really nervous" about working with the group after seeing the candid 2005 documentary about their near-breakup, "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster", but said that the band is now the opposite of how they appeared in the film. Rubin said, "They're really productive, really communicative — it seems like they really like being in the room together. It's a great process. They say they're more excited than they have been in a long time about making music...I asked them not to reinvent themselves so much as to make a defining album, like the purest of what METALLICA is."

Drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone magazine that Rubin wants to make the band sound like "the METALLICA that made them METALLICA without going backward." METALLICA hopes to release its ninth studio effort by the end of the year.

Tickets Sell Out In Less Than 90 Minutes

Tickets to METALLICA's July 12 concert at Stadion in Stockholm, Sweden and July 10 gig at Valle Hovin Stadion in Oslo, Norway reportedly sold out less than an hour and a half after they went on sale this morning (Monday, February 26). A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor by the name of Anders D. Ajer (a.k.a. Bongo Fury) reports, "METALLICA's tickets to Stockholm Stadion, Stockholm, Sweden (June 12) and Valle Hovin, Oslo, Norway (June 10) were supposed to be on sale by 9:00 a.m. local time today. But when I logged on at 8:45 a.m. they were already on sale. There were huge queues and I spent 45 minutes on a waiting page before I got tickets for the concert in my hometown Oslo. When I checked again at 10:30, the tickets were sold out. The Swedish site gave me a similar waiting site and I was admitted to the site at 10:15. Okay, of course we will have a few cool opening bands, still to be determined, like a few other things on this tour, but your friends here are trying to bring you this information as it happens . . . day and night. So by now most of you have hopefully heard that we are planning on spending a few weeks this summer touring, visiting some places in Europe that we didn't 'escape' to last year. We are still sorting out the final details, schedules, etc. for our little break from recording the next album, but in the meantime, we figured that you have debated/theorized long enough over last week's 'W' clue... so here goes... yes, it is the Werchter Rock festival in Belgium... we'll be playing there on July 1st. No, we haven't really played there 19 times... only four. All the festival and ticketing information is [here]. The editors explained their choice by saying that the band's third effort Master of Puppets by Metallica"built upon and perfected everything they had experimented with prior. It's the album where all the pieces come together in glorious cohesion and it's the album that finally woke the general public up to the power and the glory that Metallica was born to spread." Two other Metallica discs also made the Top 10, more than any other act.

The list
1. Metallica - Master of Puppets
2. We know that things have been pretty quiet here in web-land, so we thought we'd throw some shit your way... here goes...
We are finishing up the last couple weeks of pre-production on the album and... really... seriously...(drumroll)... we're going to start recording on March 12th. We're pretty fuckin' psyched about it and pretty fuckin' psyched to be sharing this experience with Rick.

But wait... there's more. We kinda sorta figured that by the time June rolled around, we would be ready for a break from recording (escape??) and since we had so much fun in Europe last summer, we thought "why not go back for some more fun and games?" We're planning to share the summer love with our friends in some different countries we didn't get to last year.. okay, fuck it, maybe one or two repeats. We haven't quite worked out all the details yet, but we thought that for once we really would be the first site to break a piece of Metallica news.

So keep your eyes open for more details in the next few.. the plan right now is to head out in late June and hang out for a couple/three weeks. We might even do a certain festival that we've played 19 times in July that starts with a "W," maybe hit a certain band member's home turf... blah, blah, blah.

It's a start . . . .

From Metallica.com
