Clasically trained harp duo Harptallica have released their self-produced debut, "Harptallica - A Tribute" on iTunes to coincide with the completion of the full-length CD. Tour dates are to be announced across the Midwest and East Coast in September.

Ashley Toman and Patricia Kline, both recipients of Master of Music Degrees from Rochester, NY's Eastman School of Music, formed Harptallica originally to perform a series of arrangements based on the music of Metallica.

JAMES HETFIELD's Protective Glove Being Auctioned

An autographed protective glove that was worn by METALLICA frontman James Hetfield after he suffered severe second- and third-degree burns to his left arm due to pyrotechnics during a 1992 concert is being auctioned via eBay. According to the seller — who claims to have worked for METALLICA in 1991 during the "black album" USA tour and obtained the glove from METALLICA's former tour manager Tony Smith — this glove was worn by James to help heal and protect his burned left hand from the heat of stage lighting. The glove comes with a James Hetfield plectrum from the 1992 tour and a black album world tour "after-show" pass, complete with two photocopied photographs of James wearing the medical glove. A certificate of authenticity from Tony Smith is also included.

Blackwell Publishing is about to release a book called "Metallica and Philosophy", which is said to be as "a provocative study of the 'thinking man's' metal band." A description of the book reads as follows:

Lars Ulrich told a New York radio program that the band will lay down 14 songs for its ninth studio album, which the group will begin recording next Monday (March 12th) in San Francisco. Ulrich said on the Friday Night Rocks show, "We started out about six months ago with about 25 songs and now we've narrowed those down to 14, and we're gonna start recording 14 songs next Monday. So we're all pretty stoked."

Unlike the troubled, turbulent sessions for the band's last album, 2003's St. Anger, Ulrich told us that pre-production for the new effort has had a whole different vibe: "It's frighteningly tame (laughs). The four of us show up and we hang out and we have a great time, and there are no psychiatrists in sweaters, there are no film crews, it's very much like it used to be. It's pretty mellow around here. All that St. Anger stuff seems like a movie (laughs)."

Of course, the drummer is jokingly referring to Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, the documentary that chronicled the making of St. Anger.

Ulrich acknowledged on Friday night that American fans were disappointed that the band will tour in Europe and not the U.S. for the second summer in a row. But he added, "All our American fans out there must rest assured that there will be no end to the love coming everybody's way in the next couple of years with the new record and so on."

The drummer also said he was "sure in his heart" that Metallica would play the entire Master of Puppets album live in the U.S., as it did last year in Europe.

The group plans to work in the studio until early June, take a break for its European tour, then finish recording in August. As for whether Metallica will release the new album in 2007, Ulrich said, "I'd like to try and get it out this year, I hope we can get it out this year. If it doesn't come out this year, then it will be out at the very beginning of next year."

Rubin admitted he was "really nervous" about working with the group after seeing the candid 2005 documentary about their near-breakup, "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster", but said that the band is now the opposite of how they appeared in the film. Rubin said, "They're really productive, really communicative — it seems like they really like being in the room together. It's a great process. They say they're more excited than they have been in a long time about making music...I asked them not to reinvent themselves so much as to make a defining album, like the purest of what METALLICA is."

Tickets Sell Out In Less Than 90 Minutes

Tickets to METALLICA's July 12 concert at Stadion in Stockholm, Sweden and July 10 gig at Valle Hovin Stadion in Oslo, Norway reportedly sold out less than an hour and a half after they went on sale this morning (Monday, February 26). A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor by the name of Anders D. Ajer (a.k.a. Bongo Fury) reports, "METALLICA's tickets to Stockholm Stadion, Stockholm, Sweden (June 12) and Valle Hovin, Oslo, Norway (June 10) were supposed to be on sale by 9:00 a.m. local time today. But when I logged on at 8:45 a.m. they were already on sale. There were huge queues and I spent 45 minutes on a waiting page before I got tickets for the concert in my hometown Oslo. When I checked again at 10:30, the tickets were sold out. The Swedish site gave me a similar waiting site and I was admitted to the site at 10:15. At that point everything was sold out (they probably let Swedish users in first)."

Four more shows on the "Sick of the Studio '07" tour confirmed.
Enough already with this announcing one show at a time B.S. . . . we've got four more to tell you about!

First up, is Oslo, Norway on July 10th. Last time we were there is it was winter (Dec. '03). . . we're psyched to be playing outside in the summer, actually our first outside gig ever in Norway.

We haven't been to Stockholm, Sweden in way tooooooo long . . . so it's very cool that we'll be back on July 12th to play at Stockholm Stadion for the second time. See how these things work ... 'cause the next show is in . . . Helsinki, Finland, July 15th, our eighth visit to Helsinki and again our second time at the Olympic Stadium. Yeah, there are a couple of days off in there . . . what to do, what to do?

Last tidbit from tonight's update . . . a city we have only played once before, and site of one of the best and most intense shows in 'Tallica history . . . Moscow on July 18th, this time at the Lushniki Stadium.

They're all Metallica shows, with of course a few cool opening bands that we'll let you in on as soon as all the details are sorted.

METALLICA will play a special open-air concert at Rotundenplatz in Vienna, Austria on July 5. There will be exclusive Wavebreaker tickets for members of the official METALLICA fan club, MetClub. The pre-sale will start on February 24 at 9:00 a.m.

Legendary producer Rick Rubin (SLAYER, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, AUDIOSLAVE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), who was named "Producer of the Year" at this past weekend's Grammy Awards, spoke to MTV.com about his work with METALLICA on their much-anticipated follow-up to 2003's "St. Anger", tentatively due before the end of the year via Warner Bros.

"I saw [the warts-and-all METALLICA documentary 'Some Kind of Monster'], and it made me really nervous," Rubin said. "Then we started working, and it's the opposite direction of that. They're really productive, really communicative — it seems like they really like being in the room together. It's a great process. They say they're more excited than they have been in a long time about making music. We're going to start recording in March. I asked them not to reinvent themselves so much as to make a defining album, like the purest of what METALLICA is. That's the aim, so we'll see what happens."

When asked the titles of the new songs his band is about to record for its next album, Ulrich said. "Right now, most of them are called cities, I kid you, not! Caspar, Fresno, Munich, Glasgow — that seemed the easiest way to identify them."

Ulrich, singer-guitarist James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo began work on the follow up to 2003's "St. Anger" while on tour during the past year backstage before each show. "We did something we'd never done before: We carried a ProTools (recording) system with us," Ulrich said. "Twenty minutes before stage time, we would go into a room and play, to get the machinery moving. They were jams, riffs, fun and games. And they were recorded.

"That's where ninety-five percent of this record came from," Ulrich added. "The working titles are the geographical locations where they came up."

BOB ROCK To Be Inducted Into CANADIAN MUSIC HALL OF FAME

Veteran producer Bob Rock (METALLICA, MÖTLEY CRÜE, THE CULT) will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during the 2007 Canadian Juno Awards, which will be broadcast on Sunday, April 1 on CTV from the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, SK.
"It is an honor to join great producers like Bob Ezrin, Bruce Fairbairn, Daniel Lanois, Jack Richardson and David Foster in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame," Rock said in a statement. "They are all giants of the industry, and to be recognized, means that I had to have worked with truly great artists. I thank them for their confidence and inspiration."

In addition to METALLICA and MÖTLEY CRÜE, Rock has worked with BON JOVI, CHER, THE CULT, DAVID LEE ROTH, SKID ROW, VERUCA SALT, NINA GORDON, OUR LADY PEACE, THE TRAGICALLY HIP, LOSTPROPHETS, AMERICAN HI-FI and SIMPLE PLAN. His trademark sound is a "loud" mix with reverb that has commercial appeal.

Rock briefly returned to performing music in 1993 (after a stint as a guitarist and co-founder of the PAYOLAS in the '80s), forming the band ROCKHEAD with ex-PAYOLAS drummer Chris Taylor. The band released one self-titled album and two singles, but split up shortly afterwards. He is producing and working with THE OFFSPRING on their next album.

The editors explained their choice by saying that the band's third effort Master of Puppets by Metallica"built upon and perfected everything they had experimented with prior. Rick Rubin is anounced as the producer on the next Metallica album. Here is a few words about him. Frederick Jay Rubin (born March 10, 1963 in Long Island, New York), is a Grammy Award-winning American record producer best known for his work with rap and heavy metal, as well as the "American series" albums with Johnny Cash. Rubin was a major figure in the fusion of rap and hard rock, bringing together Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith for the hit song "Walk This Way". He was also a major figure in the fusion of rap and heavy metal into alternative metal, nu metal and other forms. MTV has called him "the most important producer of the last 20 years."[1]

In addition to being a producer, he is also a musician serving as the original DJ of the Beastie Boys, and a head of a record label, co-founding Def Jam Records with Russel Simmons, and later starting American Recordings.

We are finishing up the last couple weeks of pre-production on the album and... really... seriously...(drumroll)... we're going to start recording on March 12th. We're pretty fuckin' psyched about it and pretty fuckin' psyched to be sharing this experience with Rick.

But wait... there's more. We kinda sorta figured that by the time June rolled around, we would be ready for a break from recording (escape??) and since we had so much fun in Europe last summer, we thought "why not go back for some more fun and games?" We're planning to share the summer love with our friends in some different countries we didn't get to last year.. okay, fuck it, maybe one or two repeats. We haven't quite worked out all the details yet, but we thought that for once we really would be the first site to break a piece of Metallica news.

So keep your eyes open for more details in the next few.. the plan right now is to head out in late June and hang out for a couple/three weeks. We might even do a certain festival that we've played 19 times in July that starts with a "W," maybe hit a certain band member's home turf... blah, blah, blah.
